Today, Gina Spence Virgil and her team will launch their annual “Each One Reach One” back-to-school campaign, an initiative that has become a lifeline for hundreds of families across Bermuda.
The event will be held at the CedarBridge Academy cafeteria Saturday August 23rd 2025, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., with doors opening at noon. Families are encouraged to arrive early, as a line traditionally forms around the building well before the start. Those hoping to receive gently used items are also asked to bring their reusable own bags and they have gone green.
This year, more than 500 children have pre-registered for assistance, and hope for service them thanks to the generosity of the community, “We set a goal of $80,000 based on the applicants, and thanks to Bermuda’s support, we are close to reaching the goal,” Mrs. Virgil explained. “It is important that every child who comes registers will leave with what they need.”
The campaign has been shaped by the personal stories collected during registration. Families reported losses ranging from jobs and housing to health struggles and reduced income. “It was heartbreaking to hear,” said Virgil, “but it gave us the chance to build a campaign that truly responds to the needs of our community.”
At the heart of the program is the First Day Starter Package, which includes a new shirt, a pair of bottoms (skirt or pants), pair socks, multipack of underwear, multipack of undervest, and a school bag. “If you price these 6 items individually, you’re talking about paying more than $150. Esspecially for those who students that wear adult sizes,” said Virgil. “Through the Gibbons Company, we’re able to make these 6 items affordable and accessible for every child.”
Gibbons Company has been the lead partner for 13 years, helping the campaign provide uniforms for over 10,000 children. Additional support comes from MediaVille, which powers the campaign’s website, making registration and donations seamless, and from the Daily Group, who leads the communications team across social media platforms.
