The Gina Spence Program (GSP) is dedicated to supporting families facing financial hardships by providing essential school uniforms, first-day starter kits, backpacks, and other necessary supplies. Our program ensures that Bermuda's children have the best start to the school year, with a particular focus on those experiencing grief and loss. Through strategic partnerships and community support, we equip students not just with materials but also with confidence to thrive academically.

Age Range: Children from preschool to high school.

History

Founded in 2012, the EORO Back To School Program began as a response to the growing need within the community to support disadvantaged families at the start of the school year. Over the years, we have expanded our services and scope, particularly with our recent focus on supporting children dealing with grief and loss. To date, we have aided over 12,000 children, partnering with local businesses like Gibbons Company to ensure a sustainable supply of school-related necessities.

Forms of Support

First Day Starter Kits: Packages containing school uniforms and essential supplies.
School Uniform Recycling: Collaboration with Gibbons Company to provide gently used uniforms.
Supportive Resources: Access to additional educational and welfare resources.

  • Distribution: Organized events at local venues like CedarBridge Academy Cafeteria for families to receive items..
  • Follow-Up: Monitoring and additional support to ensure students have everything needed throughout the school year.

Program Goals

  • Expand Reach: Aim to support 500+ children annually.
  • Increase Funding: Raise $75,000 to cover all projected costs and develop further resources.
  • Community Engagement: Enhance partnerships with local businesses and community organizations.

Successes to Date

  • Broad Impact: Supported over 12,000 children since inception.
  • Annual Distribution: Consistently provided over 600 school bags and 3,000 uniforms each year.
