Bermuda’s Grief & Loss Awareness Day is a historic initiative led by the Gina Spence Program (GSP), dedicated to fostering community healing, raising awareness, and ensuring that no one has to navigate grief alone. Taking place annually on the first Friday of March, this day unites individuals, families, businesses, and organizations in a collective effort to support those experiencing grief and loss.

This year’s inaugural event will be held on Friday, March 7th, 2025, from 12 PM to 2 PM on the front steps of City Hall, where the Premier of Bermuda will read the official proclamation alongside other government officials, community leaders, and advocates for grief awareness.

The Vision Behind Grief & Loss Awareness Day

The Gina Spence Program has long been a beacon of hope for those facing grief, offering accessible counseling, education, and resources through its Healing Hearts, Champions, and GriefConnect programs. Over the years, GSP has supported countless individuals and families, helping them navigate loss in its many forms, from the passing of a loved one to changes in health, relationships, employment, and beyond.

With over 40 different types of loss one can experience in a lifetime, grief is universal—yet too often, it is suffered in silence. GSP believes that grief and happiness can co-exist. This day represents our commitment to ensuring that no heart grieves alone while providing meaningful support to those in need.

Why This Matters

Grief impacts everyone. Whether through death, divorce, health changes, financial instability, or the loss of a pet or job—we are all 100% grievers. This day was created to:

  • Encourage conversation about grief and loss in homes, workplaces, schools, and communities.
  • Make grief support more accessible through counseling services, education, and community-based initiatives.
  • Unite Bermuda in an annual moment of remembrance, reflection, and hope.

What to Expect

The event will feature:

  • The Official Proclamation read by the Premier of Bermuda
  • Remarks from Government & Community Leaders
  • A Community-Wide Therapeutic Moment—a symbolic activity designed to honor loved ones, foster healing, and remind us that grief and joy can co-exist
  • Performances by Local Artists & Schools

A Legacy of Healing & Hope

Bermuda’s Grief & Loss Awareness Day is more than an event—it’s a movement. By coming together every year on the first Friday of March, we are making a powerful statement: grief deserves space, support, and recognition. Through this initiative, we aim to create a culture where no one grieves alone, and healing is always within reach.

At GSP, we believe that where grief exists, love lives in every memory. Let’s create a Bermuda where grief and happiness can co-exist and where every person, no matter their loss, finds comfort in a compassionate community. Join us in making history and standing with those who need it most. 💙🧡 #BGLAD2025 #GSP
